Storage and Handling

To maintain product integrity, store rolls vertically on end in a clean, climate-controlled environment. Keep sheltered from direct sunlight and moisture, and routinely inspect storage conditions to prevent any physical or environmental degradation.

Does granule bitumen membrane require an additional protective layer?
Yes, a protective layer is still recommended when required by the project design or where the membrane may be exposed to mechanical damage or regular traffic. The mineral granule surface provides good protection against UV exposure and weathering, but it should not be considered a substitute for a dedicated protective layer where additional mechanical protection is required.
How much granule bitumen membrane can be loaded in a 20-foot container?
A standard 20-foot container can load approximately 5,000 m² of granule bitumen membrane. The exact quantity may vary slightly according to membrane thickness, roll size, palletization, and packaging requirements.
Can people walk directly on granule bitumen membrane?
Occasional access for inspection or roof maintenance is generally possible, but granule bitumen membrane should not be treated as a regular pedestrian traffic surface. For frequently accessed roofs or walkways, we recommend adding an appropriate protection or traffic layer over the waterproofing system.
Why is mineral granule used on the membrane surface?
The mineral granules help protect the bituminous waterproofing layer against UV radiation, sunlight, and weather exposure. This makes granule-surfaced bitumen membrane particularly suitable for exposed roofing applications where the membrane may remain directly exposed to outdoor conditions.
Does the substrate need to be cleaned and primed before installation?
Yes. The substrate should first be thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, debris, loose particles, and other contaminants. A bitumen-based primer should then be applied before membrane installation. A concentrated bitumen-based primer is an economical and environmentally friendly option and can be applied by cold application without an open flame.
