Everything contractors, architects, and project owners need to know before selecting this waterproofing system.
The membrane is built upon a high-density, cross-laminated polyethylene film. This specialized carrier film provides the product with superior mechanical properties, including high tear resistance and dimensional stability. It is not like the traditional “torch-on” membranes that require dangerous open flames and liquid fuels. The WD004 is a cold-applied system. This allows for a safer and significantly faster installation process.
Weidun WD004 is primarily used as an external waterproofing barrier for building foundations, underground structures, and exterior walls to prevent water tracking and lateral moisture migration. It is also widely applied in flame-prohibited areas (like schools and hospitals), critical flashings around roofs and joints, and building renovation projects where open flames cannot be used.
Clean and prepare the substrate, ensuring it is dry, smooth, and free of dust or loose particles. Apply an emulsion bitumen primer to improve adhesion and allow it to dry completely. Peel off the release film and firmly bond the self-adhesive membrane to the surface. Press the membrane with a roller to eliminate air bubbles and ensure full contact. Finally, install a protective layer before backfilling or applying the finishing system.

Expert-Insight
Remove all dust, loose particles, and hard debris from the roof surface. Use an air blower to thoroughly clean the substrate, ensuring it is free from dust and contaminants that could affect membrane adhesion and installation quality.
Apply a non-cured bitumen rubber primer evenly over the substrate to enhance membrane adhesion. For projects requiring a more cost-effective solution, a concentrated emulsified bitumen primer can be spray-applied to reduce both material and application costs.
Pro Tip: Ensure the primer is fully cured or reaches the manufacturer’s recommended tackiness before installing the membrane.
First, reinforce all internal and external corners with dedicated strips of the membrane to secure vulnerable joints. Then, simply peel off the backing film, align and stick the main sheets onto the primed substrate, and roll them firmly to ensure a watertight bond.
